The novel could describe the ascent in a paragraph. The film has to physically get a crew there, which turns a single line of prose into a logistics problem with a weather window attached. Most of the development work so far has been reconciling those two things: keeping the scale the book promises while accepting what the ridge will actually allow.

What has been useful is that we own the source. When a sequence turns out to be unshootable as written, we can change the book being adapted rather than negotiate with a rights holder about it.
